Peterborough Ontario Real Estate Profile

Mar. 7, 2005: Peterborough real estate (profile): Peterborough is situated on both the banks of the Otonabee River and the shores of Little Lake in the heart of Ontario's Kawarthas Region. The Kawarthas, meaning "bright waters and happy lands", were named by First Nations people.

The population of Peterborough is 74,000, with 130,000 people living in the Greater Peterborough Area. It is smack dab in the middle of cottage country, yet is only 90 minutes northeast of Toronto.

There are a lot of good restaurants featuring menus that offer food from around the world. Peterborough offers unique and quaint shopping, live music and theatre, cultural festivals and events, and a large variety of sports and recreational activities.

The city's Summer Festival of Lights was awarded Attraction Canada #1 Provincial Cultural Event in 2001.

There is also a lot to do on the city's surrounding rivers and lakes. Water taxis, kayaks, canoes, beaches, marinas, parks, bike trails and the Trent Severn Waterway are just a few things to explore, as well as pickerel, bass and carp fishing.

Trent University and Sir Sandford Fleming College offer top quality education to students.

Peterborough real estate market: Two-bedroom houses run from $116,500 to $214,900. Two-bedroom condos range from $109,900 to $139,000.
